Kuraray manufactures a line of PVA fibers for different applications. The REC15x8mm is used with mortar in high dosages as a structural fiber. This ductile PVA-ECC is created by adding this fiber at two percent by volume, or 1.4% by typical weight, into a custom mortar design. This is often used together with conventional steel reinforcement, for a variety of reasons:

1. to reduce the amount of steel reinforcement required
2. to reduce the labor required to place the steel reinforcement
3. to reduce the concrete cover needed to protect the steel from water penetration and spalling
4. to add ductility to the finished concrete.

Lower dosages can be used to increase toughness or reduce both plastic and drying shrinkage cracking. Other types of cracking can also be reduced, including autogenous, differential curing, placement, and settlement.

Some mortar mix designs perform better with the slightly larger and easier to mix RECS100x12mm. This is the recommended fiber for slabs and other flatwork.

The RF400x12mm is used in very high strength concrete and mortar (over 14,000 psi) where the very high bond strength of the fibers can lead to breakage during pullout.

The RFS400x18mm is used to reinforce concrete, either alone or with steel. It can be placed conventionally or sprayed. It is best when used with aggregate not larger than 3/8".

The RF4000 is used to reinforce concrete either alone or with steel. It can be placed conventionally or sprayed. It is recommended for use with aggregate larger than 3/8".

Kuraray also manufactures many custom sizes for specific applications. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
